OAPEC highlights Jordan’s phosphate, potash exports

AMMAN (Petra) – A report by the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) said Jordan is one of the largest producers and exporters of phosphate, potash and chemical fertilisers at the global level. The report said Jordan produces 5,175 thousand tonnes of fertilisers through four companies. It also produces 1,350 tonnes of ammonium phosphate and 1,670 tonnes of urea. The report forecast that the petrochemicals industry of Arab states will grow during the next decade, highlighting these countries’ efforts to develop the industry’s infrastructure. By 2012, the fertilisers and petrochemicals’ production capacity in the Middle East and the North Africa region will be double that of western Europe.
